Lake Pressegger See, the second largest lake in the region, is one of the first to freeze over. Usually by the end of December there is a secure covering of ice, and provides circular runs of about 2.5kms, curling venues and ice hockey rinks.
Am Lake Weißensee is for the skating enthusiast the place to go, being Europe’s largest expanse of natural ice – 6.5km². Every year in January the lake features in the Dutch 11 City Tour, when about 3,000 skating enthusiasts descend onto the lake and take part in speed skating marathons.
